Bringing it back

I’ve decided to resurrect the blog. In this incarnation, it will be an actual blog, and not just a bunch of pictures, since I already have a place to unload all my photos.

The II World Cup of Softball wrapped up last night. The US squad was 6-0 with four run-rule victories. They were quite impressive.

More impressive than their play on the field, though, was how fun and engaging I found them all to be. I heard a number of complaints from a couple of groups of fans who were, in what unfortunately seems to be typical American fashion, incredibly rude. The team had two designated autograph sessions for the public plus one for the fans who were part of the Ultimate Fan Zone. People just kept griping that they wouldn’t stop and sign autographs while they were leaving the field. Nevermind that there was another game trying to get started on that field.

For the most part, I thought all of the players were really friendly and personable. I had an excellent time being around them. Perhaps their fans need to get over themselves.

This weekend was the first really big event where I felt like I really belonged there. I don’t know if that feeling was a product of shooting for the team, or if it was because I’m really comfortable shooting in Hall of Fame Stadium, or if it’s because I feel like my softball pictures are good, or what. All I know is that it really felt good to be shooting that event.

I still need to find a place to live in Austin.
