On being amazed
I went to lunch today with some friends who will, for the time being, remain nameless. We hit up a local sandwich joint between classes -- building our websites needed some serious fuel.
One of them ordered a second sandwich, a turkey one. She doesn't eat turkey, so I was highly curious, though I didn't ask her about it at the time.
As we were walking back to our building, we walked past a man sitting at the bus stop, a man we had passed on our way to the sandwich joint.
She handed him the sandwich and said, "This is for you." Apparently he attends services at the church under the bridge, a local ministry for the homeless.
I was struck absolutely speechless by the tenderheartedness of her gesture. I'm not sure why, since she's generally a nice person anyway. It was just a really, really moving moment, and one I'm glad I was able to witness.
Grace and peace.
