Hi there
I hate when I start blog posts and never finish them, so I just posted that last one as-is.
I'm sure there were some really profound things going to come next, but it just didn't happen.
As of today, we are five weeks into the semester. Every week we work a little harder, and every week we get a little bit further behind. I'm not sure how that's possible, but it's happening.
I feel like there were some funny stories I intended to share here, but I'm too exhausted to remember them.
Today, I established and followed a schedule with surprisingly militaristic precision. I woke up at precisely 6:30, started my car at exactly 7, arrived at school at 7:10, created a presentation for my 9 a.m. class, finished it exactly at the appointed hour of 8:30, took exactly 10 minutes to walk to class, and am now midway through my allotted 20 minutes of pre-class resting time.
Weird.
Last night we had two guest speakers from the Olympus Visionaries program. They are sponsored by Olympus and part of what they do is go around to different universities and lecture and do portfolio reviews. One of the nice things about being a grad student/TA/loveable person is being invited to go out to eat after these lectures with my profs and our guests. Anyhow, when we were at dinner (having appetizers in a group in a lounge), Katie and I were looking at my homework for Donna's class. One of our guests leaned over and did an impromptu review of the images I should print for class this evening. It was pretty neat. I'll get another, formal review today, but it was nice to hear what he had to say about my most recent work.
As for that work, it's a plus-size burlesque troop. I've only shot them once thus far, at a performance Saturday night. The project is really more of an exploration about who becomes burlesque dancers in this day and age, and perhaps an exploration of modern feminism and femininity in this particular sub-culture. So, I'm shooting at a birthday party for one of them Friday night. I think it'll be interesting.
OK, that's all for now. Have a stellar day, all.
